Communication can take many forms. Most people think of communication as speaking or talking, but the truth is, there are many forms of it. Talking, sign language, body language, hearing, and believe it or not, writing and many more. Other forms can be just the “idea” of what you are trying to portray to people.
We can think of communication is a way of saying something, whether it’s seen, heard or an idea. So how does this relate to the web field? Well let’s stop and think about it for one moment. Say for instance, your sight was taken away? Close your eyes. Are you able to see the web page in front of you? What about hearing? Can you hear the page? Could you tell me what is happening and what the idea of the site is? What are you trying to communicate to the people whom will be using it?
As a web site designer and developer, we must think further in advance when creating a site or even just a page. We must take into account that not everyone is the same, functions on the same level, or even have the same abilities. So, how are you to communicate to these people and how do you prepare yourself to do so?
A site designer and developer must think of what they want to communicate thru their site. What is it you want to say to people? What exactly are you going to portray with it? The next thing would be how you go about doing it in a fashion that would try to include everyone to enjoy it.
Communicating with a web site that is accessible to everyone is very important, but also the law. Whether it’s to put correct coding so screen readers are able to use it, using larger fonts, making sure your links are active or down scaling the site for simplicity, it all has to be as accessible as possible. This way, you’re not just communicating to only one particular group of people. .
As a designer/developer, producing a website that communicates well, not only for the site or company, but also it is a representation of you. Communication in the web industry is very important for everyone. It allows access for everybody to be able to participate and enjoy it.
