Trustworthiness is to be true, honest, faithful and reliable. It is an assurance that you are able and willing to get things done.
Trust is a need for partners to insure future exchanges will be carried out smoothly. It is earned, and depending on a person it can be a pretty lengthy process to develop that relationship. Developing trustworthiness also takes regular maintenance for a long term relationship.
In web design and development, trustworthiness is of importance. When creating a site, you must show that it can be trustworthy to potential visitors, especially if it is an e-commerce website. As a person making these creations, you must prove to your clients that you are a trustworthy person and have the capabilities to continue that relation.
As a designer/developer for the web, you learn that trustworthiness for a website is to add value to the user experience and make them feel like they truly got something by visiting the site. You also build customer loyalty this way. Some things you should consider when building a site to build trust and show your worthiness as a designer/developer:
• A site needs to have user friendly navigation and be informative.
• Having own domain name looks professional and trustworthy.
• Legitimate contact information.
• Keep content updated
• Use relevant content
• A site needs to upload quick, users are inpatient
• Have a About Us section, if you don’t then your users are only going to get suspicious
• Provide a way for your user to share their opinions and communicate with you or each other
• Always provide a secure and protected site if you have purchase programs or logins
As a student of web design and development I have learned, not only as a student but a future designer/developer that trustworthiness can be shown through reputation, performance and appearance. Whether on the web or face to face, I feel that a person’s time is just as valuable as mine and I am not going to waste it. As a trustworthy person, I must be accountable, show care and support for my co-workers, team, teachers, employers and other people in my related field and keep an open mind because the web is an ever changing learning experience of a lifetime.
What you give is what you receive.
