Making Choices

In Web design and development, we are faced with a multitude of choices. Many of our options can be, but not limited to, colors, font style, size, layout, designs, pictures and more. In the field, we also run into the clientele having their own opinions on things.
With so many things to think about, overwhelming as it may seem, which one is the right choice? There may come a time and place when you are designing /developing a site you may make the wrong choice, but that is how we learn.
Most of our choices will mostly be based on what our clientele wants in a web site and how they want it to look. As a designer/developer we have the power to make proper selections to meet our clients’ needs. It is our choice, never less that can make or break us and defines who we are.
But wait a minute! Who said we had to make a choice to change anything? We also have the choice not to change as well. Not making that choice is not always a bad option, there may be things in a site that are perfect and doesn’t need changing. Or how about something that works well for the consumer or clientele? Does it mean you need to make a choice to change it?
Making the choice not to change can also have fall backs as well. As a designer or developer, you may get comfortable with a particular program or style. It’s something you know well and don’t see a point to change. That also can be bad news. You may end up carrying over your styles or designs into other work and people begin to see a pattern taking place. Not every company or client wants the same thing. This aspect can be costly on your part. Not seeing the vast options and making the choice to change what may need it, update your knowledge or experience can leave you seriously behind the competitor’s edge.
A choice is that as it is a choice. We are faced with so many each days of our lives, some relatively unimportant with little effects, others so large that we have to research before making that final decision. Objectively determining which choices will bring you closer to your objects as a developer or designer is very important. We must not be afraid of choices, but motivated by the new potentials that lie ahead.
