Compassion is a deeper understanding of another’s pain, more vigorous than empathy; the feeling is usually shared humanity with an open mind and nonjudgmental attitude. When we understand and care about how another feels, there is usually a desire to alleviate another’s suffering. Compassion is a way of life and most often influenced by example. It is an intentional action that has the outcome of benefiting another.
Being compassionate is a sense of empowerment, to know that you can be the solution to a change, a life changing decision, to progress forward and make a difference. Having compassion can be as little as offering comfort in a time of need, help, or even giving somebody hope. There are many ways to be compassionate, offering a helping hand, knowledge or wisdom, listening to someone’s stories, volunteering your time or simple random acts of kindness. Taking the time to learn about someone can be an uplifting experience and also apart of being compassionate. As we struggle with the present economic times, we have learned to put ourselves in other’s shoes, and understand what affects one, has impact on others
To be compassionate a person sees with an open heart, having acceptance, and being nonjudgmental. They offer selflessness, an empowerment to be strong, an offer to “lean on me” and the inspiration for others.
The best compassionate gift you can give anyone is by “paying it forward”.
1 Timothy 6:18 -”Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
